How we score

The Tools.us.org score is a composite of ratings that users already published on other platforms. It is not our own test of the tool, and nobody can pay to change it.

The formula

Each source gives a rating out of 5 and a count of ratings or reviews. A source weighs as much as its count, capped at 1,000, so one huge platform cannot drown the others.

weight = min(count, 1,000)

          Σ (rating × weight)
Score = 2 × ───────────────────
              Σ (weight)

rounded to one decimal, out of 10

Worked example: Notion

Notion has one source with a verified rating today, so this example has one term. With more sources, each adds its own term to the top and its weight to the bottom.

App Store: rating 4.8, 90,627 ratings
weight = min(90,627, 1,000) = 1,000

Google Play: rating 4.6, 404,783 ratings
weight = min(404,783, 1,000) = 1,000

Score = 2 × (4.8 × 1,000 + 4.6 × 1,000) ÷ 2,000
      = 9.4 out of 10

Rating and count as last checked on 6 Nov 2026. This is the same score shown on the Notion page.

Which sources count

  • Only a listing we verified as the tool's own is used. A source with no score we may use (no listing, or a site that does not allow automated reads) is not shown at all.

  • A missing source is left out, never counted as zero.

  • A company-level rating is labelled as such and included. A rating that belongs to an unrelated parent company is shown on its card and not used.

  • A score needs 20 ratings in total across the sources used. A tool below that has no score, and its page, lists and cards show no score field at all.

  • With one source only, the score says which: "Based on App Store ratings only".

Freshness

Each source card shows the date its rating was last checked. A card older than 30 days is marked "Stale" with that date.

Sponsored tools

Some tools may carry a visible "Sponsored" label next to their Visit button. A paid placement never changes a score, an alternative or a section on the page.

Something wrong?

Every tool page has a "Report incorrect information" form. We check each report against the official source and fix the record.
